- Tropiduchidae - Tropiduchid planthoppers - uncommon, mostly tropical
- Acanaloniidae - Acanaloniid planthoppers - small group
- Issidae - Issid planthoppers
- Flatidae - wedge-shaped, common
- Fulgoridae - Fulgorid planthoppers - largest insects in group, but not very common
- Derbidae - Derbid planthoppers
- Delphacidae - Delphacid planthoppers - largest family, hind tibia with a large apical spur, mostly small, may have short wings
- Achilidae - Achilid planthoppers
- Dictyopharidae - Dictyopharid planthoppers - head strongly produced anteriorly
- Cixiidae - Cixiid planthoppers - large group
- Kinnaridae - Kinnarid planthoppers
