Uploading Field Data to IPM Specialists Using Pendragon Forms/SyncServer Software

Prepared by X. Zhang and D.G. Pfeiffer, as a project by the senior author for ENT 4984, Arthropod

Management in Fruit Crops, Department of Entomology, Virginia Tech.

Introduction

Orchard scouting and interpretation of data is increasingly import with the rise in severity of some fruit pests at a time of pesticide losses. The software described here allow growers or extension agents to collect field IPM data (such as pheromone trap captures) directly into a PDA (personal digital assistant), and share the data with an IPM specialist when the PDA is synchronized with a desktop computer. Thus, data are organized for the original client, and may be shared as part of a regional trapping program.

Pendragon Forms

Pendragon Forms consists of three components:

1. The Forms Manager is an Access 200X database application (Microsoft Access is not required to use this program) that includes a Form Designer and some simple tools for viewing, managing and exporting data.

2. The Forms Conduit is a bridge between Forms on your desktop and Forms on you handheld device, and it runs during each HotSync data transfer.

3. The Forms Runtime is a program on the handheld device that runs the Forms.

Please see the website of Pendragon Forms about How it works in detail.
