Genus Scaphinotus

Of medium to large size; head elongate, madibles long, slender, arcuate, without a bristle-bearing puncture on outer side; labial and maxillary palpi long, last segment hatchet-shaped and concave, labial bisetose; elytra each with fourteen to eighteen distinct striae, which are sometimes irregular or replaced by tubercles; procoxal cavities open posteriorly; metacoxae separated.
